childbirth educator demonstrates comfort measures for pregnancy and birth to a couple

Meet Carly Ann

Hey! I’m a certified Evidence Based Birth childbirth educator of three years as well as a Certified Professional Midwife and experienced birth worker who has attended over 200 births since 2019. I love queer family building, trauma informed care, and bringing homemeade lasagna to my postpartum friends.

About The Class

The Evidence Based Birth childbirth class is a 6 week course led by Carly Ann and offered hybrid in Chicago, Illinois. Our first and last class are in person and the middle four classes are held on zoom. This offers the perfect combo of community building with the ease of zoom meetings. The class costs $350 for two people and includes a workbook, plus a postpartum “meet the babies” reunion.

This is a great class for any birth plan, whether you desire an unmedicated birth or an epidural. First time parents will love learning all the info they need to make a birth plan that is aligned with their goals and values.

Partners play a huge part in learning as active participants in reading research, identifying phases of labor and how to support the love of your life on this epic journey. Plus an entire class dedicated to hands-on comfort measures.

We cover the stages of labor, comfort measures, positioning and movement, common interventions, decision-making, advocacy, partner support, and “what if” planning. Classes are designed for families planning hospital, birth-center, or home births.

One of the only hybrid models of classes taught in Chicago, this class is uniquely awesome.

FAQs

When should i take a Childbirth Class

1

You should try to be done with class around 36-37 weeks so you’ve learned everything by the time you’re “due”. I typically recommend starting between 25-30 weeks but earlier is okay beucase you can have extended access to our materials if needed.

Is this class useful if i want an epidural?

2

ABSOLUTELY! This class is not just for crunchy people, in fact, most people who take this class are planning an empowered hospital birth or even an induction. We spend an entire class talking about interventions and what to expect: IVs, cervical checks, epidurals, cesareans, breaking your water and every other intervention that could be offered during your birth. Knowledge is power right?

Are you classes good for first time parents?

3

Yes. 100% of my class attendees have been first time parents. This comprehensive class teaches you everything you need to know from pregnancy, through birth and postpartum.

Where are the classes held?

4

Classes are held at Sweet Peas Studio in Ravenswood on the North side of Chicago. The online classes are held via zoom.
